Eumseong County is located at the center portion of South Korea Territory, from where River Han and River Geum flow. It borders to Icheon, Gyeonggi Province to the north, Anseong to the northwest, Chungju to the east, Goesan to the south, and Jincheon to the west. As there are many hills & hilly land and abundant water resources to the northwest, this district has been known as fertile, rich productive land, and famous for benevolent heart of the people.
Even though there are not nationwide famous Mountains, there are small but beautiful mountains forming Sobaek Mountains, including Mt. Gseop (710m), Mt. Buyong (644m), Mt. Suri (505m), Mt. Sureui (679m), Mt. Wontong (520m), Mt. Ohgap (609m), etc. As the natural ecosystem has been preserved well, many mountain climbers are coming from other districts.

There are not many differences from adjoining districts in climate; four seasons are distinguished clearly with 11.2 C of average temperature of whole year and 1,360mm of average rainfall a year. Indicated by the district¡¯s ancient name ¡°snow castle,¡± it has much snowfall compared with neighboring district.

Eumseong count is typical agricultural district where most of population has been dwelt in independent houses. But since 1987 when the rapid industrialization has started, the type of dwelling has been changed and apartments and row houses have been increased greatly. Now, in county capital areas and the other population centers, most of new dwelling type is apartment.

The population has reached to the culmination number of 127,007 in 1965, but since then has decreased gradually; it records to the minimum number of 74,717 in 1990. Thereafter, because of the rapid industrialization, the population has been increasing to be a unique county where population is increasing. As of December, 2005, it has the population of 88,382 with 31,810 households.

Eumseong is a traditional agricultural county with fertile land & abundant water resources, where good qualities of agricultural and special products have been produced from old times. Particularly, clean red peppers, ginsengs, yellow-white peaches, watermelons, melons, grapes and apples are recognized as good quality agricultural products with nation wide name value.

Also pollution-free agricultural products applying organic farming, various vegetables using up-to-date facilities are produced, which has enhanced the agricultural competitive power. As the opening of Central Highway in 1987, many companies have moved in to count 875 companies in 1998. Now it has the most companies in Chungcheongbuk Province. In December, 2005, the number of companies registered in Eumseong was 2,678 and the employees numbered 11,966. Globally renowned enterprises like Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. are the main contributors to Eumseong¡¯s economic growth. In 2006 alone, Eumseong¡¯s trade volume reached US$1,590 Million with US$658Million in export and US$932Million in import.

When the planned local industrial plants are finished, Eumseong is expected take the central role of central industrial area. Eumseong is an ideal district where agriculture and industry are in good harmony.

Major road traffic networks are Central Highway (penetrating Northwest Region of Eumseong), Inter-Central Highway in the North, East-West Highway (penetrating from West to East), National Road #36 (Cheongju-Chungju under expanding to 4 lanes), National Road #3 (Chungju-Seoul under expanding to 4 lanes).

In addition to these, Chungbuk-railroad (double track) runs through Eumsung town, Wonnam subcounty, and Soi subcounty. So, this convenient traffic network, running in all directions, has become a motive power of local economic development.

All though it doesn¡¯t have heaven blessed tourist resort, Mukuk village resort areas where one unit of communist army was repelled for the first time during Korean War. Also, Whayang Dong in Goesan, Lake Chungju and Suanbo Hot spring in Yangseong are located in near area, so tourism in connecting with these resort areas is other favors.

Since early times, Eumseong has produced the best quality agricultural specialties from this gifted land with abundant sunlight, adequate rain and fertile soil. Especially, Eumseong red pepper takes pride in the feature of the spicy tastes and strong odors and even is exported to Japan.
